Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has admitted he understands why Trent Alexander-Arnold could consider leaving Liverpool for Real Madrid, having himself considered a move to Spain. The

England right-back’s future remains uncertain with his contract with the Reds set to expire at the end of the season and reports suggest he has already decided to join the Santiago Bernabeu on a free transfer.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Rooney said playing for Los Blancos was something any player would find difficult to turn down.
“If Trent chooses to go to Real Madrid then it’ll be fair to him because I also considered going to Spain,” he said.
“He’s 26 and his contract is up so he’s now got to make a decision whether to commit his future to Liverpool or start anew at a club that really wants him. “
If he leaves Liverpool for another club then the question may be asked, but if it’s Real Madrid then I don’t think anyone would doubt his choice. “
Real Madrid are the biggest club in the world, they have an incredible history. This was an opportunity too good to turn down. เว็บพนันออนไลน์ UFABET สมัครง่าย โปรโมชั่นมากมาย. I can understand if Trent felt it was something he didn’t want to let go. “
Of course, Liverpool are a club he has loved since he was a kid. It is not easy to say goodbye to a club that has been with him all his life but as a player, sometimes you have to make decisions about your future.”
Rooney has also reflected on the time he considered leaving Manchester United in 2010, revealing Real Madrid and Barcelona were the two clubs that came close to signing him.
“When I told Manchester United I didn’t want to extend my contract and handed in my transfer request, three clubs came close to signing me,” Rooney said.
“A lot of people were talking about Manchester City but the real interested parties were Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona. “
In the back of my mind I was actually thinking about going to Spain and there were discussions. “
For a while Real Madrid seemed the most likely deal but in the end the team I missed the most was Barcelona. I missed playing with Messi, Iniesta, Xavi and Busquets. “
In the end I decided to stay at Manchester United but you have to admit that Barca at that time were an incredible team. And no player would not want to play for a team like that,”
Rooney says, adding that the current Real Madrid are just as attractive, especially with world-class players like Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior.
“Real Madrid are a team full of superstars these days, with Mbappe,Bellingham or Vinicius,” the England striker added
. “So it’s no surprise Trent will miss playing with them, every player feels the same. “
He’s been at Liverpool since he was six, almost 20 years. Of course, it’s not easy to leave but in football, most players have to move on at some point. Very few are ‘one-club men’ like Gary Neville or Jamie Carragher.”
